MOLIDAE Sunfish
The sunfish family contains three species of ocean travelling, distinctively shaped, laterally compressed fish which appear, on first sight, to be all head and no body! They can grow to a considerable size, upto 3 m long and weighing 500 kgs.
Sunfish Mola ramsayi
Confirmed from a single specimen recorded from the east coast. Dark, large pointed dorsal and ventral fins. The specimen was estimated at around 500 kg. Mola mola also occurs in UAE waters. Offshore surface and sub-surface, the sunfishes feed on plankton. 121.5 cm.
