SPARIDAE Seabreams

Seabreams are related to snapper and threadfin breams and have spiny fins and sharp incisor like teeth at the front of the jaw, whilst strong teeth at the sides of the jaws are adapted for crushing molluscs and other similar food items.

Two-bar bream Mylo bifasciatus

Silvery-grey with two broad stripes on the head, interspersed with bright silver. Prominent dark spotted scales and strong lateral line. Dorsal, caudal and pectoral fins bright yellow. Inshore coral reefs, islands and structures. Feeds on molluscs, crustaceans and algae. Another relatively common reef fish which can be observed around harbour walls and rocks in the Arabian Gulf. Common on coral reefs between Khorfakkan and Dibba, particularly Sandy Beach Island and along Dibba Bay where some reefs accessible from the beaches offer safe inshore snorkelling. 30 cm.
