I am curious to know about the wells and oases of Arabia, such as Qatif and Hofuf and the saltier wells, from which only camels drink.Whence comes the water? And what determines its quality? What lives in it?

I´ve read in one of your articles that there are only 4 Queen of Sheba gazelles left, all of them in a “particular” collection. Can you give me some more information about this issue?

There are a number of private and commercial ostrich farms on the Arabian Peninsula but they are breeding the African species. These countries include Oman, UAE and Saudi Arabia. The National Wildlife Research Centre in Taif, Saudi Arabia is also breeding the birds.  They are African Red-neck Ostriches and the same have been introduced into protected areas, and are now breeding in the wild. The first confirmation of chicks was from the year 2000.

There are no protected areas designated specifically for wolves. On the contrary in areas where Oryx and Houbara have been reintroduced they are not welcome, and most of these areas are fenced in, in order to keep large predators out.

The last known records for the Arabian Ostrich are one shot near the Saudi/Iraqi border in 1949, and one found in Jordan in 1966. The Arabian Ostrich was severely persecuted for its plumes which were in fashion in Europe (feather boas) at the turn of the previous century.  The feather of the Arabian Ostrich was in high demand as it was lighter and more flexible than the one from its African counterpart.  Fragments of ostrich shell can still be found in many desert areas on the Peninsula.

It is likely that the snake that you have found is a Mola and is exceptionally dangerous! You should NOT attempt to hold it behind the head because it has the ability to still twist its jaw and bite
We will be uploading additional information but I wanted to pass on this information to you now.

Within the Arabian Gulf you rarely observe yellowfin tuna (Thunnus
albacares). However, yellowfin are common in the Arabian Sea along the coast
of Oman where they are observed year around. Within the Arabian Gulf you
could expect to see Longtailed tuna (Thunnus tonggol) and Kawakawa
(Euthynnus affinus) in large numbers. Their season is from late fall to
spring. Bluefin tuna are not present in this region.

We hope there are no mums and das out looking for it!!
We’ve bottled it alive for further inspection.

I am also doing a report on clownfish. One interesting fact I found was that clownfish are covered with a snot-like substance that keeps the poison from the sea anemones that they hide in away!

I am a Zoology student at Aberdeen university and am doing my honours project on analysing the arabian leopard diet.
I was wondering if you could give me any clues as to where I can get up to the minute information
on the arabian leopard, like its diet, where it lives etc.
I would be very grateful if you could help me out.
Thank you very much,
Laura Milne.
