Wadi Hayl
CLICK FOR SECTION MAP

Prominent in the hills up a quiet wadi just twenty kilometres from Fujairah is the partially restored Wadi Hayl palace, the former residence of a branch of Fujairah's ruling family. This commands a position overlooking the village, long since abandoned, lower down the valley, although the cultivations are still tended. Wadi Hayl has running water throughout the year and aged mango trees and date palms are found alongside younger specimens of their kind.

Wildlife in the wadi includes numerous dragonflies, Arabian toad (Bufo arabicus) and on the higher ground, the endangered Arabian tahr (Hemitragus jayakari). Ancient rock art, or petroglyphs, are found in the valley.
